Position: Job Coach-Special Education/Sand Springs Public Schools

Special Education Job Coach

Provides support to the lead teacher and assists students with individual physical, social, academic, and other needs as they learn life and job readiness skills.

Essential Functions:

  • Shows students how to do specific step-by-step work tasks.
  • Assist students with daily living skills.
  • Appropriately interacts with partners to develop a program that is best for students
  • Transport students in a school vehicle to work sites in the community.
  • Communicates with the teacher regarding observations made while on the job site.
  • Assist students with transition activities.
  • Teach soft skills for employment
  • Provide support to students with disabilities in the classroom, community-based educational settings, and other educational settings (e.g., playground, hallway, restroom, gymnasium, school vehicle, and other specified areas).
  • Provide assistance to teachers and related service personnel in implementing the IEP.
  • Provide assistance with personal care for students.
  • Supervise and ensure students' safety.
  • Provide necessary supports to enable students with physical, health, and/or behavioral issues or limitations to access their educational program.
  • Assist in supervising students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  • Assist with large group activities.
  • Participate in the planning of lessons and classroom activities.
  • Conduct educational classroom activities with small groups of students with special needs.
  • Inform the teacher of the special needs of individual students.
  • Provide assistance and supervision to students at work sites.
  • Assist in maintaining individual records for each student.
  • Assists with special projects.
  • All other duties as assigned by the administrator.

Qualification:

48 Hours College Credit OR Passing Score on Paraprofessional Test High School Diploma or Equivalent Completion of Paraprofessional Training Required by the OSDE CPI CPR and First Aid Certificate, Obtain a Tiered Certification Certificate as specified by the OSDE. Pass the National Criminal History Check qualifications with the OSDE/OSBI.

Have a high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) diploma, PLUS:

Option A:

Hold an associate's degree (or higher)
OROption B:

Complete at least two years (48 credit hours) of study at an institution of higher education.

OROption C:

Pass the Oklahoma General Education (OGET) Test. (See Office of Educational Quality and Accountability for testing.)OROption D:

Pass the Praxis Para Professional Assessment Test (Passing score is 455)
Pass an Oklahoma Criminal Background Check Application for Oklahoma Title I Paraprofessional Credential $10 processing fee (check, cashier's check, or money order) made payable to the Oklahoma State Department of Education (will be required if hired for this position)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS APPLY FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONALS

Education and/or

Experience:

High school diploma or GED. Generally receive paraprofessional training within the first year of employment. CPR and First Aid certification. Six hours of continuing education per year to maintain paraprofessional certification from the State of Oklahoma. Paraprofessional/Assistant Training (provided by school nurses).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Basic knowledge of disabilities. Ability to follow all district policies and procedures. Ability to work independently, displaying initiative and enthusiasm for tasks. Demonstrating strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators. Ability to work without supervision and work as a team player. Ability to manage confidential information that respects students, families, and employees. Ability to listen effectively.
