Position: Transportation Specialist

Department: Transportation

Status: Non-Exempt

Mandatory Requirements: OSBI Background Check and a valid Driver's License are required

Essential Functions: responsible for overseeing and managing students who fall under IEP, 405 plans, or McKinney-Vento transportation. Additionally, this person will be in charge of all Tulsa Technology routes, Tulsa Community College routes, all mid-day shuttles and routes, 21st Century and after school routes, along with Summer School and ESY routes.

Duties to include, but not limited to:

  • Routing and planning through Traversa (Tyler Technologies)
  • Coordinate schedules and bell times of Sand Springs Public Schools, Tulsa Technology Center, Tulsa Community College, and the surrounding districts to ensure that students are routed.
  • Attends all IEP meetings where transportation is a related service, both when it is initially being added and each subsequent amendment. Must be organized and able to keep up with paperwork requirements.
  • Works in conjunction with McKinney-Vento or other displaced families to provide transportation to the student’s school of origin, both for Sand Springs Public Schools and the surrounding districts. Works in conjunction with schools to coordinate pick-up and drop-off times and locations.
  • Works directly with school sites to ensure that all transportation needs and shuttles are in place between class periods.
  • Watching student behavioral videos in conjunction with job duties or as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
  • Office duties include answering phones, dispatching on the radio, dealing with parents, students, and patrons both over the phone and occasionally in person.
  • Coordinates back=to-school nights at each school site, ensuring that representatives from transportation are trained properly and scheduled to assist the school.
  • Cover drives as needed on routes or activity trips.
  • Assists the Director of Transportation with spring and fall audits, making sure that the department is compliant and all necessary documentation is present and up-to-date.
  • Keeps track of expiring CDLs and MVRs, along with D.O.T. physicals and mandatory state training.
  • Assists with password resets and assists drivers with logging in to do their training
  • Participates in monthly safety meetings and assists with safety and compliance
  • Assists with routing, activity trips, and student discipline as needed
  • Assists the Driver Trainer with CDL driver training as needed,
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director of Transportation

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Computer literate. Ability to follow all district policies and procedures. Ability to work independently, displaying initiative and enthusiasm for the tasks being done. Demonstrate strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators. Ability to work without supervision and work as a team player. Ability to document records accurately. Ability to listen effectively.

Language

Skills:

Ability to speak clearly. Ability to read and interpret general written instructions in the English language. Ability to effectively communicate with supervisor, school personnel, and co-workers.

Mathematical

Skills:

Ability to perform basic math functions such as addition and subtraction.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Physical Demands: Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above the shoulder, and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students; lift/move up to 50 pounds.

Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 50 pounds.

Visual Requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information.
