Opening Statement
The Sandpoint Waldorf School is seeking an enthusiastic Fifth Grade Teacher to join our faculty for the 2026-27 school year and ideally through the graduation of the class in eighth grade. The ideal candidate should have completed Waldorf teacher training and have experience teaching through the grades with artistry and imagination in teaching, as well as strong, flexible classroom management skills, and a collaborative spirit.
AboutSWS, which serves students from preschool through eighth grade, has an experienced, dedicated faculty that works collaboratively and is deeply committed to Waldorf pedagogy and anthroposophy. Our program includes music, strings, ed support/extra lesson, handwork, woodwork, Spanish, Japanese, and movement. When it is feasible, we also offer a block of eurythmy.
Sandpoint in north Idaho is nestled on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille between two mountain ranges which offer many opportunities for outdoor activities including downhill and Nordic skiing. The city of almost 10,000 has a robust arts community and is bicycle and pedestrian friendly.
EssentialJob Duties
- Teach students the academic, social, and artistic curriculum
- Create a nurturing, developmentally appropriate learning environment rooted in Waldorf pedagogy
- Support and participate in seasonal festivals, class plays, and community events
- Participate in weekly faculty, grade-level meetings, and committee work
- Contribute to parent meetings and curricular presentations
- Collaborate with student support services and colleagues
- Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, guardians, and colleagues
- Waldorf teacher training or certification (required or in progress)
- Bachelor’s degree (required)
- Demonstrated success teaching elementary and middle school students
- Commitment to Waldorf principles and philosophy
- Salary is based on Waldorf training and years of experience teaching in a Waldorf school
- Full tuition remission for the children of full time staff
- $3,000/year medical stipend instead of health insurance
- Option to participate in a simple IRA plan. If you choose to contribute, SWS will make a matching contribution of 100%, up to a maximum of 3% of your gross pay
- Funds toward ongoing professional development
