Idaho Department of Lands

The Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) is seeking a full-time Lands Resource Supervisor – Forest Management – Good Neighbor Authority position. This position will be located in Sandpoint, Idaho.

To supervise staff in resource management activities; perform related work. Generally, a Lands Resource Supervisor is assigned supervisor work related to Forest Management, Service & Regulatory Forestry, Fire Management or Lands & Waterways Management.

• Lead and supervise staff by hiring, assigning priorities, evaluating performance, coaching, and supporting employee development.
• Plan, design, and prepare timber sale and forest improvement projects, including boundaries, prescriptions, logging systems, road design, project mapping, cost estimates, and contract terms.
• Administer timber sale and forest improvement projects to ensure technical accuracy, legal compliance, contract fairness, and alignment with program objectives.
• Conduct fieldwork such as timber cruising, marking, road assessments, and overseeing planting, thinning, and maintenance activities.
• Provide technical guidance to staff, private landowners, contractors, and partner agencies on silviculture, engineering, hazard management, compliance, planning, and resource assessments.
• Manage program planning, coordination, evaluation, and implementation across timber, range, mineral, and public trust areas.
• Oversee budgeting, expenditures, and financial accuracy for program operations, projects, personnel, and capital needs.
• Facilitate communication across Area staff, bureaus, agencies, interest groups, and the public to address emerging issues and ensure coordinated management.
• Represent the program with stakeholders, committees, public groups, and governmental agencies, providing information and fostering collaborative relationships.
• Ensure access to project areas through rights of way identification and acquisition.
• Participate in the Department’s fire suppression program as required.

Experience in:

• Preparing and administering contracts including implementation and evaluation of contracts as well as field inspection, compliance and reporting requirements
• Interpreting public land survey legal descriptions, aerial imagery and topographic and property ownership maps
• Using Geographic Information System (GIS) principles and data model
• Managing projects including developing and evaluating projects, preparing reports and making recommendations
• Making oral presentations and providing technical assistance and program information to management, clients or public groups
• Performing financial analyses to determine cost/benefit of project proposals
• Interpreting and applying state and federal laws, rules and regulations related to natural resource management activities
• Writing technical reports.

Good knowledge of:

• Effective supervisory practices
• Conflict resolution methods.

  Possession of a valid driver's license.

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry or related discipline
• Experience working in Arc Pro GIS platform
• Experience preparing, writing, and administering timber sales and forest management plans
• Experience with supervising others
• Experience with Project Management and budgeting including priorities, developing project budgets, allocating resources, monitoring progress and evaluating results
• Experience with timber markets
• Experience using and managing databases
• Experience with or knowledge of the NEPA process
