Provide a safe, clean and healthy environment for county employees and the public. The successful candidate must pass a Sheriff's Department background check and will support Sheriff's facilities. Incumbent performs routine work that can involve a high level of complexity, working independently under periodic supervision and exercising above normal self‑direction. Primary communication occurs with coworkers and the supervisor. Work is performed indoor and outdoor, may involve intermittent exposure to unfavorable conditions, and typically requires local travel.
EssentialFunctions
- Clean, sanitize and disinfect floors, bathrooms, offices, hallways, stairs and breakrooms.
- Empty trash, recycle and garbage containers.
- Clear snow and debris from sidewalks, roofs and other areas.
- Notify supervisor concerning need for repairs or maintenance on lighting, plumbing and HVAC equipment.
- Secure buildings by locking doors and windows.
- Set up and clean facilities for special events.
- Complete paperwork and time sheets manually or on computer; use computers for ongoing education, time‑off requests, email, and access to pay and benefits information.
- Use personal protection equipment (PPE) correctly.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including overtime when needed.
- High school education or GED equivalent.
- Previous custodial experience is preferred.
- Ability to pass and maintain a Sheriff's Office background check.
- Ability to read, comprehend, write simple correspondence and follow short instructions.
- Proficiency in basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
- Must be physically able to perform job duties, including frequent bending, climbing, squatting, manipulating, lifting and transporting up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to follow directions, work effectively and professionally, and develop working relationships with co‑workers, supervisor and the general public.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license with a good driving record.
Requires continual walking, standing, stooping, repetitive motions, frequent crouching, grasping, reaching and pushing or pulling 15–20 pounds. Lifting up to 50 pounds is required. Needs good general vision. Worker may be exposed to electrical currents, chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, noise and poor ventilation. Moderate local travel is required.
