About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the energy markets, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Power Trading Analyst for their office in Sandton. This role is instrumental in analyzing power market dynamics, developing trading strategies, and managing risk for the company’s energy portfolio. You will work closely with the trading desk, providing data-driven insights and recommendations to optimize trading decisions and maximize profitability.

• Analyze short-term and long-term power market trends, including supply/demand dynamics, fuel costs, and regulatory impacts.
• Develop and refine quantitative models to forecast electricity prices and identify trading opportunities.
• Provide real-time market analysis and trading recommendations to the power trading desk.
• Monitor and manage trading positions and associated risks, ensuring compliance with risk management policies.
• Collaborate with risk management, origination, and operations teams to ensure alignment on market strategy.
• Prepare regular market commentary and performance reports for senior management.

• Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in power market analysis , energy trading, or a related analytical role.
• Deep understanding of electricity market structures, trading instruments, and fundamental drivers.
• Advanced proficiency in quantitative modeling, statistical analysis, and programming (e.g., Python, R, VBA).
• Excellent understanding of financial risk management principles.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex market insights effectively.
