Purpose of Job

To direct and manage the implementation of Sasols communications strategy, ensuring the development of suitable frameworks and the integration of messaging and communication activities at a functional/business cluster/organisational level. To support the protection and enhancement of the Sasol reputation through strong and positive media relations, digital communications, content and platform management, as well as content strategy development, integration and coordination.

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive media strategy aligned with Sasol’s corporate strategy.
  • Build and maintain relationships with top tier journalists and media outlets.
  • Oversee media relations and responses to media enquiries.
  • Provide strategic advice to the CEO, GEC, and senior leadership on media engagement.
  • Develop and maintain messaging frameworks for key issues and strategic priorities.
  • Provide strategic advisory to the GEC and leadership on reputation and external positioning on issues and opportunities.
  • Lead Sasol’s digital communication strategy across web, social media, and internal platforms.
  • Oversee content creation, publishing, and moderation for digital channels.
  • Implement social listening tools and analytics to monitor brand sentiment and engagement.
  • Drive innovation in AI implementation within GCBM, digital storytelling, content creation including video, interactive content, and campaigns.
  • Ensure digital content aligns with brand identity and corporate messaging.
  • Implement proactive reputation management strategies and crisis communication protocols.
  • Contribute to Sasol’s response to critical and material issues to the business and/or to stakeholders, including but not limited to developing issue briefs and engagement strategies.
  • Work with Senior Specialist:
    Group Media Relations for media training for executives and PRA teams, especially for crisis scenarios.
  • Develop communications strategies to enable effective stakeholder engagement plans as required and in collaboration with Sasol stakeholder relationship/business owners.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely and relevant communications and response.
  • Support leadership in preparation stakeholder meetings and forums, such as AGMs, results, conferences etc.
  • Manage multidisciplinary project teams and external service providers.
  • Oversee budgets for media, digital, design, and communication projects.
  • Implement performance management and career development for direct reports.
  • Oversee Sasol’s external listening, monitoring and landscape analysis.
  • Develop strategic external analysis frameworks and dashboards to inform stakeholder intelligence, engagement and engagement approaches/strategies.
  • Effectively manage external service providers within budget and manage associated commercial process in line with Sasol’s Supply Chain/Procurement requirements.
Formal Education

3-4-year Relevant University Degree

Honours and Master degree advantageous
