Family Health Services is a Federally Qualified Health Care Center located in Sandusky and Norwalk, Ohio. As we continue to grow and add services, we have an exciting opportunity for a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant or LPN at our Norwalk clinic for our Medication Assistant Treatment Program.

The Medical Assistant performs duties essential to the patient visit and other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
- General office skills.
- Disseminate information by telephone, mail service or e-mail.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Triage responsibilities.
- Assist providers in patient diagnosis by gathering patient history, obtaining vital signs, chief complaints, verifying medications and allergies, ensuring patients are properly dressed/undressed for exam. Afterwards, review the chart for presence of information that the provider might need during the visit (labs, consults, ER reports).
- Must have an understanding of legal and ethical issues.
- Scheduling and managing patient appointments and referrals with required documentation.
- Clean, prepare, and sterilize instruments.
- Performs electrocardiograms, phlebotomy, and laboratory procedures as directed by health care provider, including but not limited to pregnancy tests, strep tests, urine dips, hemoglobin, and blood sugar testing.
- Perform routine administrative and clinical tasks such as aerosol treatments ordered by a physician.
- Updating and filing patient’s medical records.
- Collect, prepare, and perform basic laboratory specimens and tests.
- Instruct patients about medications and special diets.
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician.
- Telephone prescriptions to pharmacy.
- Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for patients.
- Remove sutures and change dressings.
- Observe and follow required safety protocols, including handling and disposal of sharps, use of personal protective equipment, exposure to blood borne pathogens, and general safety of employees and patients.
- Assist other team members as needed.
- Graduate of certified medical assistant program or equivalent or active OH LPN Licensure
- Applicant must be organized and able to prioritize assignments
- Must be able to do multi-tasking, problem-solving, and have decision-making skills
- Follow detailed instructions with attention to detail
- Ability to work with a culturally diverse group of people
- Must be proficient in computer knowledge – Microsoft Office, Excel
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Good customer relationship skills and a strong work ethic
- Applicant must possess independence and initiative
