- Perform Cardiac Ultrasound Testing (echocardiography)
- Interact with and educate patients regarding echocardiography
- Perform scans using the M-mode, 2-D (color flow), and Doppler according to established protocol
- Inform physicians of observations, as needed
- Complete documentation utilizing echocardiography worksheet
- Collaborate with RN to perform contrast ECHO study when deemed necessary
- Ensure documentation of study
- Utilize left lateral decubitus position for exam
- Identify suboptimal images and utilize strategies to maximize image quality
- Maintain performance level of suboptimal exams below established benchmark
- Ensure timely completion and distribution of dictated and transcribed reports
- Support accreditation standards and assist in maintaining ICAEL accreditation status
- Prepare for Cardiac Stress Testing
- Interact with and educate patients regarding cardiac stress test
- Reinforce and ensure patient understanding of procedure
- Attach/disconnect electrodes; prepare set-up of stress testing equipment
- Obtain blood pressure and assist patients during testing
- Record data on assessment sheet
- Interact with and educate patients
- Program Holter monitor and ensure functioning
- Apply and disconnect cardiac event monitors
- Provide patient education related to maintenance of monitor and transmission of cardiac events
- Manage data in software program and complete report preparation
- Associated Duties
- Assist with quality improvement efforts
- Develop and conduct education programs in areas of expertise for staff and patients
- Perform 12-lead EKG and complete required paperwork and documentation
- Apply ambulatory blood pressure monitor and provide patient with education related to monitor
- Regularly demonstrate the ability to serve patients of all ages in the routine performance of duties
- Associate Degree in Cardiovascular Technology, or a minimum of 3 years experience in cardiopulmonary specialty procedures
- Cardiac Echo certification is required
- BLS required
- Strong background in cardiopulmonary anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology
- Ability to identify cardiac arrhythmias and dysrhythmias
- Ability to perform the following cardiopulmonary specialty procedures
- Cardiac stress testing preparation
- 12 lead EKG
- Holter monitor application
- Cardiac event monitor application
