SUMMARYIndividuals in this position operate metal working machinery to assist in the fabrication of steel products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Ability to operate all CNC equipment including, but not limited to, laser, press brakes, lathe, mill and plasma
- Performs set-ups & operates various types of machinery, including but not limited to, saws, shear, punch presses, cold saws, reamers, tube shearer, axle machines, cross tie press, drill press, and stake machine
- Ensure quality of product by meeting engineering specifications
- Other mechanical assembly as instructed/trained
- Ability to program machines to execute functions
- Advanced troubleshooting of equipment and part configuration to ensure quality compliance with no assistance
- Other duties as assigned
- Mentor entry level Machine Operators on equipment and quality control of product
None. However, Machine Operators that support their supervisor in managing team members may earn a Cell Leader role.
QUALIFICATIONS- Able to pass pre-employment math and measurement test
- Ability to read mechanical drawings preferred
- Ability to operate hand tools required
- Understanding of angles and the use of a protractor preferred
- Ability to read calibration equipment including but not limited to micrometers and calipers preferred
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience running a CNC press brank and/or fiber optics laser preferred
- Post high school machining, CNC, or related certification/degree preferred
- Must be able to read and write in the English language
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) required
- Able to convert decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals required
- Ability to read a tape measure within 1/16” required
- Basic keyboarding skills including printing documents
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
WORKENVIRONMENT
The work environment is an industrial metal fabrication shop with exposure to machinery, fumes, and airborne particles. The noise level in the non-air-conditioned work environment is usually moderate. All required PPE, including steel toe shoes, must be worn and a clean work environment must be maintained.
