Job Description
The Sandwich Public Schools is searching for a School Counselor - Grades 9-12 for the school year at our Sandwich Middle High School. The School Counselor will report to the Principal.
A school counselor works to maximize student success, promoting access and equity for all students. As vital members of the school leadership team, school counselors create a school culture of success for all.
Responsibilities- Help all students apply academic achievement strategies.
- Help all students manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills.
- Help all students plan for post‑secondary options (higher education, military, workforce).
- Individual student academic planning and goal setting.
- School counseling classroom lessons based on student success standards.
- Short‑term counseling to students.
- Referrals for long‑term support.
- Collaboration with families/teachers/administrators/community for student success.
- Advocacy for students at individual education plan meetings and other student‑focused meetings.
- Data analysis to identify student issues, needs, and challenges.
- Acting as a systems change agent to improve equity and access, achievement, and opportunities for all students.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Valid DESE license as a School Counselor required.
- Hold a valid Massachusetts SEI Endorsement or grade‑level appropriate ESL License.
- Must have experience and passion for working with students.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability and initiative to work independently and collaboratively with a multi‑disciplinary team including school educators, specialists, administrators, family and community partners, possessing strong counseling/clinical skills and a passion for continued learning and professional development.
COMPENSATION: Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement located on the Sandwich website.
