Job DescriptionThe Sandwich Public Schools is looking for a School Counselor / Guidance Department Head for Grades 7‑12 for the 2026‑2027 school year at Sandwich Middle High School. The School Counselor will report to the Principal.
A school counselor works to maximize student success, promoting access and equity for all students. As a vital member of the school leadership team, the counselor helps create a culture of success for all students.
Responsibilities- Help all students apply academic achievement strategies.
- Assist students in managing emotions and applying interpersonal skills.
- Guide students in planning for post‑secondary options (higher education, military, workforce).
- Individual student academic planning and goal setting.
- Deliver school counseling classroom lessons based on student success standards.
- Provide short‑term counseling to students.
- Make referrals for long‑term support.
- Collaborate with families, teachers, administrators, and community partners for student success.
- Advocate for students at individual education plan meetings and other student‑focused meetings.
- Analyze data to identify student issues, needs, and challenges.
- Act as a systems change agent to improve equity, access, achievement, and opportunities for all students.
Specific Duties
- Collaboratively work within the school community.
- Display problem‑solving skills.
- Communicate and interact effectively with a variety of audiences.
- Maintain knowledge of content and best practice.
- Valid DESE license as a School Counselor.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Valid Massachusetts SEI Endorsement or grade‑level appropriate ESL License.
- Experience and passion for working with students.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability and initiative to work independently and collaboratively with a multi‑disciplinary team, possessing strong counseling/clinical skills and a passion for continued learning and professional development.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Compensation per the Collective Bargaining Agreement located on the Sandwich website.
