Engineering Technician
Position Summary:
The Engineering Technician serves members and supports the goals of Jefferson Energy Cooperative (JEC) by ensuring that field engineering and preparation of construction work orders for facility extensions, modifications, retirements, or changes are performed efficiently and effectively, providing adequate and dependable electric service to all members/consumers in accordance with RUS specifications, National Electrical and Safety Codes, and system/industry methods.

- Provide field engineering and prepare construction work orders for facility extensions, modifications, additions, retirements, or changes in accordance with RUS specifications, National Electrical and Safety Codes, and industry methods.
- Size transformers, conductors, and devices to properly serve members or developers while ensuring efficient utilization of resources.
- Acquire and complete new right-of-way easements, permits, pole transfer forms, property release forms, locate tickets, and UPC service area grid maps consistent with company practices and filing processes.
- Monitor and provide staking assistance to crews working on work plan system improvement jobs and maintenance jobs pertaining to the Line Services.
- Assist the GIS Department with field checking of the maps.
- Schedule work orders with appropriate Construction personnel.
- Coordinate with Line Maintenance Superintendent on right-of-way issues.
- Assist Safety and Loss Control Supervisor in investigations of member/consumer installation problems and damage claims.
- Answer questions from members regarding programs and promote goodwill regarding these programs and other JEC involvements.
- Interact with members, general public, and other persons and organizations in a friendly, courteous, and helpful manner.
- Be available for work outside normal working hours as part of JEC's on‑call system.
- Assist in determining solutions to territorial issues.
- Work with all JEC employees to promote the “team” concept at all times.
- Perform duties in accordance with established policies, practices, and procedures to maximize contribution to JEC objectives.
- Attend job training and safety meetings.
- Other utilities: coordinate joint use and exchange information.
- Government agencies: coordinate right-of-way easements.
- Georgia House Movers Association: ensure adherence to regulations.
- Members: respond to requests and concerns.
Job Knowledge, Training and
Experience:
- Required:
An associate’s or two‑year technical degree; however, experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements. - Preferred:
Experience in engineering or staking related field; previous experience at another cooperative; ITS switching certification. - Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
Required:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Friendly, courteous, and helpful manner when interacting with members, general public, and organizations.
- Produce accurate and detailed documentation.
- Meet deadlines under pressure.
- Learn and utilize design, planning, and organizational procedures.
- High proficiency with computer skills, including database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs.
Frequently required to walk, stand, bend, and stoop. Must possess excellent hand‑eye coordination.
Working ConditionsThis position requires 30% indoor work and 70% outdoor work in all weather conditions.
