Job Description and Duties
Under the general direction of the Program and Minor Branch Manager a Senior Transportation Engineer, the Assistant Project Manager assists or acts on behalf of project managers in delivering projects within scope, cost, schedule, and resources. The Assistant Project Manager may also serve as Project Manager for less complex projects such as Minors, Capital Maintenance, Landscaping, etc. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
The Assistant Project Manager helps manage and facilitate the development and engineering administration of projects from inception through completion of the construction contract. These projects include STIP, SHOPP, Director's Orders, seismic projects, Minors, and other Capital Outlay funded projects. Coordination of project delivery efforts with cooperating agencies, developers, and consultants is also required. In support of, and in coordination with the Project Manager, the Assistant Project Manager works with the Project Development Team to negotiate a Project Workplan covering scope, engineering documents, contracts, schedule, and cost;
manages both capital and support costs; and monitors actual costs against planned costs. The Assistant Project Manager assists the Project Manager in identifying possible schedule or resource problems, functional workload peaks, or other conditions that may jeopardize project delivery and in analyzing the status of projects and recommending approval of functional input in the Workplan Status. The Assistant Project Manager may also act as Project Manager for less complex projects such as minors, capital maintenance, landscaping, and Director's Orders.
- Transportation Engineer (Civil)
Position located at 703 B Street, Marysville, Yuba County. This is a Limited Term position that may be extended to 24 months or become permanent. The incumbent may work in a climate-controlled environment, with artificial lighting in an office building, field office, laboratory, or trailer. Travel to work sites for field work and other travel as required. The incumbent may be exposed to loud noise, dust, chemicals, and extreme weather conditions.
Working at night and overtime may be required. The Caltrans Transportation Engineer (Civil) Rotation Program is a mandatory 24 to 33 month rotation assignment for all permanent, full-time employees within the program’s scope. The rotation allows employees to develop well-rounded project delivery knowledge by rotating through design and construction units and a mandatory elective assignment. Assignments may involve long-term travel.
In addition, the incumbent may be required to go on loan to another project delivery function when staffing needs arise. Telework may be available at the discretion of the Department and based on evolving policy. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises. Business travel may be required. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
