About the Position

The City of Sandy Springs is seeking an experienced and technically strong Stormwater Permit Manager to lead the City’s stormwater regulatory compliance efforts and help protect the quality of our local waterways.

This position manages all aspects of the City’s stormwater regulatory compliance requirements, including coordination of the City’s stormwater team, other City departments, legal and financial staff, consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders. The Stormwater Permit Manager plays an important role in ensuring compliance with Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit requirements while supporting initiatives that improve water quality and stormwater infrastructure throughout the community.

The position also supports stormwater infrastructure investigations through research of legal documents, interviews, field assessments, and technical analysis to develop recommendations for infrastructure maintenance, repair, and construction.

What You'll Do
  • Receive, investigate, and resolve citizen stormwater complaints and communicate investigation results to residents and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate inspections and maintenance of City stormwater infrastructure, including preparing work orders and tracking contractor progress.
  • Conduct inspections of City properties and designated infrastructure.
  • Compile documentation and prepare reports demonstrating compliance with state stormwater permit requirements.
  • Coordinate stormwater education and community involvement activities with Sandy Springs residents and City employees.
  • Coordinate with City departments, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders to meet MS4 permit compliance metrics.
  • Assist the Stormwater Services Manager in identifying opportunities to improve water quality in waters of the state within Sandy Springs.
  • Support stormwater infrastructure investigations, including research of legal documents, interviews, field assessments, and development of recommendations.
  • Provide rotational after-hours/on-call support for up to one week per month.
  • Provide Emergency Operations Center support, as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience coordinating MS4 permits with regulatory agencies, stakeholder organizations, staff, and the public.
  • Five (5) years of experience in stormwater permit compliance.
  • Experience developing reports and other staff products required to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate complex technical concepts and effectively communicate with stakeholders, decision-makers, and the public.
  • Strong technical background in stormwater management.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience may be considered in lieu of the stated qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Six (6) to ten (10) years of experience in stormwater permit compliance.
  • Professional licensure or certification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
