Print, Mail & Data System Engineer

Overview

Travelers is seeking a Technology Operations Engineer I in our Print Center to help ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of critical systems through a combination of software engineering and infrastructure expertise. This on‑site role focuses on print/mail, data, and mainframe print environments using database, programming, operating systems, hardware, and software experience.

• Perform analysis, design, and implementation of reliability‑focused infrastructure, services, and on‑premises environments with a high degree of accuracy.
• Define and implement technical requirements for infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, and deployment.
• Design and enhance CI/CD pipeline workflows to improve deployment automation, rollback safety, and service reliability while resolving infrastructure issues of intermediate complexity.
• Configure and optimize cloud‑based and on‑premises systems to ensure high availability, performance, and operational resilience.
• Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems while ensuring adherence to security protocols in both cloud and on‑premises deployments.
• Collaborate with software, platform, and infrastructure engineers to improve system reliability, scalability, and performance across hybrid environments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Three (3) years of site reliability / systems administration experience preferred.
• Cobol experience.
• Relational database knowledge (SQL).
• Basic programming knowledge (Python, VBA).
• Operating systems experience (Windows, Linux).
• Demonstrated track record of reliability expertise and in‑depth knowledge of immediate systems worked on.
• Intermediate delivery skills; capacity to deliver reliability work at a steady, predictable pace and decompose assignments into small batch deployments.
• Proven problem‑solving skills, including system debugging and proactive resolution of repetitive reliability problems.
• Strong communication skills, clear documentation, active listening, and willingness to receive constructive feedback.
• Leadership capabilities with self‑motivation, initiative, and a commitment to professional development.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or equivalent work experience plus 2 years of technology operations or related engineering experience.
