We would like to appoint a Project Surveyor to join our Planned Programmes service. The advertised post will be working within the Specialist Project team, but we are looking for people that have the skills and ability to move across teams and planned work areas as our investment plans develop.
What will I be doing?- Take responsibility for repair & refurbishment of houses, flats (low & high rise), roof replacement programmes, refurbishment of older stock, conversion of properties, improvements to community spaces and other stock, overseeing major and complex improvement works including extensions and alterations to increase occupancy potential.
- Collaborate with Structural Engineers to deliver complex structural repairs to assets.
- Oversee work on high‑rise blocks for drainage and capacity issues, assist with structural surveys of high‑ and low‑rise communal areas, and be involved with retrofit improvement works.
- Prepare specifications of works with supporting documentation to procure work using varied procurement frameworks and use a schedule of rates in adherence to procurement guidelines and regulations.
- Facilitate changes to existing buildings, undertake option appraisals of dwellings and structures, and report findings.
- Own end‑to‑end delivery of assigned projects, delivering to a high standard, achieving value for money, ensuring a satisfactory experience for residents and stakeholders, and keeping all parties regularly informed per BCC policies, specifications and service level agreements.
- Administer contracts and deliver technical elements of projects/programmes, ensuring H&S, CDM, BSR, HHSRS and other construction regulations are met and aligned with BCC specifications and guidelines.
- Manage contractors to ensure high‑quality, cost‑effective, customer‑focused service from suppliers; basic IT and Microsoft software skills are beneficial.
- Check payment claims, ensure correctness before recommending payment, aligned with budget oversight and reporting.
- Conduct regular visits to residents’ homes and refurbishment sites for quality control and post‑inspections.
- Access scaffolds and ladders when required and understand safe lone working practices.
- Experience of surveying residential property is essential; experience in social housing is beneficial.
- Strong project management and people skills to deliver maintenance & refurbishment work programmes for City Council housing stock and buildings.
- Proven technical knowledge and qualifications, and experience in performance managing technical staff and contractors.
- Strong people‑management capability, excellent organisational and record‑keeping abilities, great customer care and communication skills.
