Job Overview
The instructor will teach college students in successfully obtaining the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in their careers. Teach all subjects within the functional area of Automotive Systems Repair Technology. Those courses can include engines, electrical, hydraulics, chassis & transmissions. Use the classroom and laboratory to instruct college students in the technical information and fundamental skills required to maintain and repair all types of passenger vehicles and trucks.
Develop new curriculum and update existing curriculum as needed, create courses to support delivery in a competency-based environment, attend all required department and school meetings, and fulfill all department and school assignments. Serve on school and college committees.
This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.

- Must maintain student records.
- Prepare course material.
- Develop course curriculum.
- Supervise automotive repairs made by students.
- Follow the course curriculum.
- Prepare and administer students' evaluations.
- Keep accurate classroom records.
- Provide ADA accommodations as directed.
- Answer questions about the course.
- Follow SLCC policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the Automotive ASE disciplines.
- Skilled in automotive steering/suspension and brakes.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
- Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for online-only courses. You are employed as an Adjunct Faculty member/Instructor on a contract-to-contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment. Your employment may be terminated at will at any time. You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.
Minimum Qualifications- Minimum six years as an automotive technician.
- AAS Degree in Automotive Technology and 4 years experience as an automotive technician.
- Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology and two years experience as an automotive technician.
- High school or postsecondary teaching experience may be substituted for industry experience.
- ASE Certified – G-1.
