Job Information

Literacy Instructional Technician – Lane 1 - $17.35 per hour, 3 hours per day, 5 days per week, 177 days per year. There are no benefits with this position. Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.

Qualifications

To be considered highly qualified under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), applicants may take the Title I Paraprofessionals Test (available through Nebo School District), or have 2 years of college (48 semester hours), or an Associate Degree. Proof of degree or transcript must be attached to the application online.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background clearance required.

Purpose Statement

The job of a Literacy Instructional Technician is to improve students' success in basic academics (e.g., reading, language, and/or math), relieve teachers of clerical tasks, and assist students by modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments.

This job reports to the Building Principal.

Essential Functions
  • Administers tests (e.g., monitoring, correcting) to assist the teacher in evaluating students' progress.
  • Administers student evaluation and progress assessments to provide information for teachers to determine the need for further individualized assessment and instruction.
  • Confers with teachers and other school personnel to assist in the evaluation of student progress and/or implementing student objectives.
  • Implements instructional programs and lesson plans (e.g., reading, math, language, comprehension, writing, computer) to help the teacher improve students' academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Implements classroom materials under the direction of the teacher (e.g., reading, math, language, early childhood learning aides) to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
  • Monitors individuals and/or groups of students in various situations to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Participates in in‑service workshops and training to receive and/or convey information related to job functions.
  • Provides direct instructional services to individuals and/or small groups of students under the supervision of the assigned classroom teacher (e.g., reading, math, self‑esteem, behavioral skills, early childhood activities) to implement goals for remediation of math, language, and reading deficits and ensure students' success.
  • Responds to emergency situations (e.g., injured student, fights) to resolve immediate safety concerns and/or direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Skills required to perform multiple tasks, potentially upgrading skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies include adherence to safety practices; operating standard office equipment (including computers and pertinent software applications); and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Knowledge required to perform basic math (including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios); understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi‑step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies include concepts of grammar and punctuation; age‑appropriate activities; health and safety standards.
  • Ability required to schedule activities; collate data; use basic, job‑related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.
