Job Information
Literacy Instructional Technician – Lane 1 - $17.35 per hour, 5.5 hours per day, 5 days per week, 177 days per year.
There are no benefits with this position. Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
Eligibility- Must be highly qualified under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Candidates may either take the Title I Paraprofessionals Test, or have 2 years of college (48 semester hours), or an associate degree. Proof of degree or transcript is required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background clearance required.
The job of a Literacy Instructional Technician is to improve students' success in basic academics (reading, language, and/or math), relieve teachers of clerical tasks, and assist students by modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments.
This job reports to the Building Principal.
Essential Functions- Administers tests to assist teachers in evaluating students' progress.
- Administers student evaluation and progress assessments to provide teachers with information to determine need for individualized assessment and instruction.
- Confers with teachers and other school personnel to assist in the evaluation of students' progress and to implement students' objectives.
- Implements instructional programs and lesson plans (reading, math, language, comprehension, writing, computer, etc.) to improve students' academic success through a defined course of study.
- Implements classroom materials under the direction of the teacher to support classroom objectives.
- Monitors individuals and/or groups of students in various situations to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Participates in in‑service workshops and training to receive and convey information related to job functions.
- Provides direct instructional services to individuals and/or small groups under the supervision of the assigned classroom teacher (reading, math, self‑esteem, behavioral skills, early childhood activities, etc.) to implement goals for remediation of deficits and ensure student success.
- Responds to emergency situations (injured student, fights, etc.) to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure efficient operation of the work unit.
Minimum Qualifications
- SKILLS: adhere to safety practices; operate standard office equipment including computers and software; prepare and maintain accurate records.
- KNOWLEDGE: basic math including fractions, percents, ratios; understand written procedures; grammar and punctuation; age‑appropriate activities; health and safety standards.
- ABILITY: schedule activities; collate data; use job‑related equipment; work with diversity of individuals; problem solve; adapt to changing priorities; maintain confidentiality; teamwork; reliable attendance.
Responsibilities include working with immediate supervision, providing information and/or advising others, operating within a defined budget, and utilizing resources from other work units as required.
Working EnvironmentThe job requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. Physical demands include 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing. The work environment is generally hazard‑free.
