Under the direction of the school principal, the classroom teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning environment where students develop the skills to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, lifelong learners and productive citizens. Teachers maintain a safe environment; establish rapport with students, parents and colleagues; motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education and do so in accordance with each student's ability.
Teachers differentiate curriculum and use effective research‑based methods of instruction. Implement Proficiency‑Based Grading in Student Evaluations.
- Have a Utah Special Education teaching license.
- Have an out‑of‑state Special Education teaching license.
- New graduates from teacher preparation programs who have not yet received their official teaching license: upload a conferral letter from your university on official letterhead that includes the degree earned, the anticipated graduation date, and the type of license and content area(s) recommended to the Utah State Board of Education.
- Have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university and have been approved for an Associate License through the Utah State Board of Education in Special Education.
- Have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university and have been accepted into one of the following university Special Education programs:
- Weber State University
- University of Utah
- Utah State University
- Southern Utah State University
- Western Governor's University
- Brigham Young University
- Westminster College
- Utah Tech University
- Have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university and be required to enroll in one of the in‑state Special Education programs above and be approved for the Associate Educator License program within six months of hire. Failure to obtain approval may jeopardise continued employment.
Application Requirements
- In‑state and out‑of‑state applicants must upload a copy of their state license.
- If approved for an Associate License, upload a copy of your highest university degree and your AEL eligibility letter.
- If you have already been accepted into one of the programs above, upload your university acceptance letter and confirm you are in good standing.
- If only a bachelor's degree, upload a copy of your degree.
- Mild/Moderate endorsement required.
- Position begins with the 2026–2027 school year.
- Preference will be given to teachers who have demonstrated skill in collaboration and supporting students in general education classrooms to provide access to and progress in the general curriculum.
- Teach core content areas outlined in the USBE Core Curriculum.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials; provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each child’s needs.
- Utilise effective teaching techniques to translate lesson plans into productive student learning experiences.
- Use computers and other technological classroom support equipment in instruction.
- Supervise students in indoor and outdoor settings, including recess and gymnasium activities.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behaviour through organization and discipline strategies.
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, maintain records, and prepare progress reports.
- Implement Proficiency‑Based Learning and the Granite Way.
- Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone, e‑mail, and the school website about the student’s progress.
- Co‑operate with other professional staff regarding students’ academic and personal growth.
- Attend faculty meetings, administer attendance policies, and participate in educator evaluation procedures.
- Administer group standardized tests following state and district procedures.
- Participate in faculty committees and sponsor student activities.
- Select and requisition books and instructional materials; maintain inventory records.
- Model professional and ethical standards with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
- Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
