Instructional Coach - Whittier Elementary (1.0 FTE)
The Instructional Coach position requires a professional Instructional Coaching endorsement or willingness to obtain it within the first 2 years of placement in this position.
These coaches work as colleagues with classroom teachers to support student learning and teacher practice. They focus on individualized and group professional learning to expand and refine the understanding of research‑based effective instruction, providing personalized 1‑to‑1 teacher support to increase student achievement.
Essential Functions- Support the philosophy and vision of Granite School District.
- Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers with a focus on improving student achievement.
- Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators.
- Communicate and demonstrate research‑based instructional practices that result in increased student performance.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Provide individualized classroom‑based coaching with teachers to support them in implementing effective instructional practices.
- Provide non‑evaluative feedback to teachers based on observed classroom practice.
- Provide support in analyzing student assessment data.
- Assist teachers with instructional decisions based on assessment data when appropriate.
- Assist teachers with specific classroom strategies when appropriate.
- Provide support for classroom engagement and management.
- Assist teachers in creating materials that are aligned with the Utah Core Curriculum.
- Model effective, differentiated instruction when appropriate.
- Manage time and schedule flexibility to maximize teacher schedules and learning.
- Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals.
- Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers.
- Participate fully in professional development for instructional coaches, including peer observations, professional research and reading, and inquiry sessions.
- Assist teachers in aligning teaching with appropriate standards, curriculum, and assessments.
- Work collaboratively and collegially with other instructional coaches, curriculum specialists, and district specialists.
- Understand that job responsibilities may vary related to each building's needs.
- Other duties are assigned.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Utah Core Standards.
- Experience in evidence‑based instructional strategies.
- Knowledge and experience in:
- classroom instruction;
- instructional coaching;
- adult learning theory;
- organizational change.
- Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common instructional focus, promoting initiatives, and conveying expectations.
- Ability to design and deliver quality professional development.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated strength in organization, efficiency, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team.
- Demonstrated interest in professional learning, growth, and reflection.
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching and/or coaching experience.
- Requires a current Utah Professional Educator License. No Associate (AEL) License candidates will be considered for this position.
- Requires a professional Instructional Coaching endorsement or willingness to obtain within 2 years of hire.
- Requires a minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching and/or instructional coaching experience.
- Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Ability to reach with hands and arms, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects. Ability to talk or hear. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to focus. Physical demands require moving and lifting supplies, equipment, etc. up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Physical Requirements –- While performing the duties of this job, the Instructional Coach is regularly required to speak and/or hear. The coach is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch. The coach is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
- The coach must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
