Adjunct Instructor, Japanese

Face-to-face position to teach first- and second-year Japanese courses. Our Japanese program is our most successful World Languages program. We are looking for an adjunct to join our Japanese team to teach two or more sections a semester. The new instructor will be supported by our World Languages Coordinator. Our language courses are flipped, communicative, and active-learning-based. Cultural competence is necessary (e.g., how to navigate racial and sexual diversity in the target culture, including gender-neutral language).

We are looking for candidates who can teach one or two sections physically in the classroom. Specific days and times are negotiable. Instructors are required to serve for a minimum of one hour a week at the Center for Languages as part of their teaching load.

1. Become familiar with and abide by all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization.

2. Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.

3. Provide appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.

4. Return graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.

5. Maintain student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades.

6. Conduct a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance.

7. Inform students of progress-to-date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines.

8. Assist in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.

9. Prepare and submit incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.

10. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

11. Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.

All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences unless approved for on-line only courses.

You are employed as an Adjunct Faculty member/ Instructor on a contract-to-contract basis, with no future expectation or obligation for employment.
