The R&D team in Salt Lake City seeks a highly talented individual to develop innovative vascular access solutions. The position focuses on technical leadership and domain expertise in pediatric and neonatal catheter development within BD Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS).
Job Responsibilities- Lead efforts to determine new product development priorities.
- Serve as a consultant and division technical expert.
- Provide technical leadership and domain expertise to cross‑functional project teams.
- Work closely with Marketing, Operations, Quality, and Engineering R&D to troubleshoot, characterize, and resolve needs in existing and adjacent devices.
- Develop innovative ideas for the organization.
- Participate in and lead cross‑functional teams.
- Provide technical support on components, material methods, systems, and equipment.
- Act as critical decision maker in areas of engineering and business needs.
- Prepare procedures, author technical reports, publish research papers, and make recommendations based on findings.
- Engage in collaborative efforts with academics, hospitals, and other external organizations.
- May manage third‑party relationships.
- Develop and direct experimentation.
- Translate technology and science into business strategy, including strong presentation skills before large audiences.
- Translate clinical needs into successful products.
- Take responsibility for concept generation, design, development, and evaluation of new products, materials, and technologies.
- Mentor and train less experienced colleagues.
- Manage project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and tracking.
- Plan and coordinate engineering test builds.
- A bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and ten years of engineering experience within a regulated industry, including at least two years in the medical device industry.
- OR a master’s degree in STEM and eight years of engineering experience within a regulated industry, including at least two years in the medical device industry.
- Experience in the medical device industry strongly preferred.
- Excellent analytical skills & discipline; ability to conduct thorough analysis of concepts with high uncertainty.
- Excellent critical thinking skills; ability to constructively challenge ideas and invite critical feedback.
- Familiarity with FDA, ISO, and Good Manufacturing Practice guidelines and regulatory compliance.
- Strong knowledge of scientific, engineering, and technical principles.
