Sr. R&D Engineer

The R&D team in Salt Lake City seeks a highly talented individual to develop innovative vascular access solutions. The position focuses on technical leadership and domain expertise in pediatric and neonatal catheter development within BD Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS).

• Lead efforts to determine new product development priorities.
• Serve as a consultant and division technical expert.
• Provide technical leadership and domain expertise to cross‑functional project teams.
• Work closely with Marketing, Operations, Quality, and Engineering R&D to troubleshoot, characterize, and resolve needs in existing and adjacent devices.
• Develop innovative ideas for the organization.
• Participate in and lead cross‑functional teams.
• Provide technical support on components, material methods, systems, and equipment.
• Act as critical decision maker in areas of engineering and business needs.
• Prepare procedures, author technical reports, publish research papers, and make recommendations based on findings.
• Engage in collaborative efforts with academics, hospitals, and other external organizations.
• May manage third‑party relationships.
• Develop and direct experimentation.
• Translate technology and science into business strategy, including strong presentation skills before large audiences.
• Translate clinical needs into successful products.
• Take responsibility for concept generation, design, development, and evaluation of new products, materials, and technologies.

• Manage project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and tracking.
• Plan and coordinate engineering test builds.

• A bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and ten years of engineering experience within a regulated industry, including at least two years in the medical device industry.
• OR a master’s degree in STEM and eight years of engineering experience within a regulated industry, including at least two years in the medical device industry.

• Experience in the medical device industry strongly preferred.

• Familiarity with FDA, ISO, and Good Manufacturing Practice guidelines and regulatory compliance.
