About Sho-Pai Tribes

Shoshone-Paiute (Sho-Pai) Tribes is a sovereign tribal government based in Owyhee on the Duck Valley Reservation, carrying forward the shared legacy of the Western Shoshone and Northern Paiute peoples while serving more than 2,000 tribal members through health, education, finance, social services, natural resources, recreation, courts, and tribal administration. Sho-Pai Tribes is looking for a full‑time Chief Financial Officer based in Owyhee, Nevada.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening the Tribe’s financial position while leading long‑term planning, risk oversight, and key financial decision‑making, with a focus on bringing structure, clarity, and stability to the function.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for overseeing all financial operations, guiding and developing a growing finance team, and providing clear, accurate financial direction to the Tribal Council and executive leadership, while helping rebuild processes, improve reporting, and support overall financial accountability across the organization.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing all finance and accounting functions across the organization
  • Leading budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
  • Preparing and presenting financial reports, trends, and analysis to the Tribal Council
  • Managing grant funding, contracts, and compliance with the Single Audit Act
  • Ensuring adherence to Governmental Accounting Standards and internal control requirements
  • Evaluating financial risks and advising on business initiatives, including new revenue opportunities
  • Supporting financial planning related to upcoming projects, including casino development
  • Rebuilding financial systems, processes, and reporting accuracy where needed
  • Leading, mentoring, and developing the finance and accounting team
  • Providing guidance and financial insight to senior leadership and departmental directors
  • Managing relationships with auditors and addressing audit findings and recommendations
  • Overseeing banking, investments, insurance coverage, and financial partnerships
About You

To qualify, you will need a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration
, along with 7+ years of progressive experience in financial leadership roles
, ideally within a tribal government or similar funding environment
.

The following are required:

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
  • Ability to pass a credit check and be bondable
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willingness and ability to travel for meetings and organizational needs

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • A CPA designation or Master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration (asset)
  • Strong understanding of grant management and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards and the Single Audit Act
  • Experience leading finance functions including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
  • Proven ability to manage audits and work with external auditors
  • Experience overseeing investments, banking relationships, and insurance coverage
