OverviewThe Firearms Sales Associate is responsible for actively seeking out customers in our store, greeting them in an upbeat and professional manner while providing world‑class customer service and assisting with firearms questions and purchases.
Responsibilities- Ensure all paperwork for firearm sales including form 4473, licensing, and background checks are completed accurately.
- Consistently demonstrate proper firearm safety and handling.
- Evaluate and appraise firearms for resale.
- Exercise good judgement when interacting with customers when shopping for firearms.
- Maintain a well‑rounded knowledge of all facets of the firearm industry including ammunition, reloading, and optics.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Must be able to legally own a firearm.
- Stop a straw purchase when necessary.
- Greet all customers on the sales floor with courtesy and a smile.
- Grow personal sales by hitting minimum goals and following Scheels professional salesmanship standards.
- Promote the Scheels Visa Rewards card and clearly explain all benefits.
- Engage in conversation with customers and assist them in making buying decisions.
- Demonstrate a passion for products in our store.
- Attend all Scheels product training and all store meetings.
- Maintain a professional appearance on the sales floor.
- Assist in all other assigned duties.
- Perform basic math; compute rate, ratio, percent; draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Write simple correspondence; present information effectively to customers and other employees.
- Demonstrate strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and problem‑solving skills.
- Maintain strong oral and written communication and reading skills to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Willing to help with freight/stocking when needed.
- Demonstrate product usage within their shop and retrieve product from heights >6 ft.
- Genuinely and consistently treat co‑workers, customers, and business partners like they are the most important person—including eye contact, a smile, and a genuine “Thank you.”
- Approach daily tasks, projects and follow‑up communication with energy and sense of urgency.
- Cultivate a deep desire to become a knowledge expert with great impact.
- Show respect and appreciation for others and Scheels.
- Arrive to work and meetings 10 minutes early.
- Show genuine interest and action in helping others before yourself, regardless of recognition or reward.

- Apply concepts of basic math, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

- Demonstrate pride and ownership of work while meeting expected deadlines.
High School Diploma or GED; and/or one to three months of cashiering experience.
Physical Requirements / Lifting RequirementsMust be able to sit, stand, bend at the waist, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push/pull, lift, talk, and hear with or without reasonable accommodation. Heavy work: exerting up to 100 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
