Job SummaryThe Journey Plumber reports to the Plumber Supervisor. Responsibilities include installing, repairing, replacing, insulating, and maintaining all plumbing fixtures, heating systems, air compressor systems, drainage, waste and vent systems, culinary water systems, fire protection sprinkling systems, backflow prev enters, chemical feed piping systems, and site utilities. The role involves recognizing dangerous water connections and correcting them to protect against contamination of culinary water systems on all College properties.
The position requires performing and completing assigned work orders in a timely and professional manner, and working and coordinating with other trades, staff, and faculty as required.
- Perform preventive maintenance on fixtures such as auguring clogged drain lines, repairing leaking faucets, and replacing worn or bad fixtures.
- Troubleshoot and maintain electronic circuit boards on infrared censored fixtures.
- Read meters and report water usage.
- Install and maintain pipes and fittings, including assembly, cutting, threading, welding, and victaulic grooving.
- Perform plumbing, heating, and pipe fitting repair, including high-pressure steam systems, hot water heating systems, drainage systems, acid waste systems, etc.
- Maintain culinary water systems and test and repair backflow prevention devices.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Perform plumbing practices such as steam heating, hot water heating, basic plumbing, and backflow prevention.
- Use tools relevant to the position such as a pipe threading machine, power tools, augers, and hand tools.
- Read and understand blueprints, plumbing related specifications, and code books.
- Follow written and verbal instructions.
- Communicate and work well with co-workers and customers.
- Basic computer skills.
- Work in areas subject to high locations, awkward positions, heat/cold weather, noise, dirt, chemicals, and confined spaces.
- Lift heavy equipment and supplies occasionally.
- Communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, maintaining good working relationships across the College.
- Work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) to five (5) years’ experience in the plumbing field.
- Complete apprenticeship program and successfully pass Utah State Journeyman's Exam.
- Possess an active Utah Journeyman Plumbing License.
- Possess and maintain a class II backflow certification.
- Must have a valid Utah driver’s license.
Plumbing maintenance experience working in a higher education environment.
