Responsibilities

The standard contract length is 228 days; however, other contract lengths may be available depending on department needs.

Faculty responsibilities include teaching and supporting student learning; curriculum development; supporting college policies and procedures; participating in department and college activities and committees; and engaging with external partners and the community  faculty member works in a classroom, lab, and various clinical agencies, including hospitals, long‑term care facilities, and community agencies. The role also involves student counseling during posted office hours.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinate with the Program Manager to plan, organize, and instruct nursing classes.
  • Work with other faculty to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum to help ensure mastery of course competencies, utilizing personalized materials as appropriate.
  • Assist in implementing college policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with college philosophy and procedures.
  • Engage and nurture students both in and beyond the classroom.
  • Participate in staff development and committee work as requested.
  • Contribute to a collegial and collaborative work environment.
  • Participate in flexible scheduling as requested.
  • Develop course syllabi, examinations, study guides, case studies, and related assignments that correlate with theory classes.
  • Collaborate with the program manager to plan clinical and lab experiences, evaluation tools, clinical schedules, and computer orientations at clinical sites, including travel to clinical sites.
  • Participate in skill‑lab demonstrations, practice, and testing of students.
  • Provide and coordinate clinical teaching activities in hospital and community settings, including student assignments, clinical supervision, and evaluations.
  • Plan and participate in recruitment campaigns and incorporate teaching strategies that foster student learning, success, and retention.
  • Maintain professional relationships with community and clinical sites by attending in‑service training, updating policies and procedures, workshops, and providing student lists to clinical agencies.
  • Make use of professional growth opportunities, including the SSC Faculty Institute for Teaching and Learning.
  • Become actively involved with the community served by the college, including K‑12 systems, higher education institutions, chambers of commerce, economic development groups, and business and industry partners.
  • Perform other relevant responsibilities as requested, such as ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment and participating in discipline‑related student activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution with at least 18 graduate hours in nursing.
  • Proficiency in teaching nursing courses.
  • Experience in nursing practice.
  • Licensure to practice nursing as a registered nurse in the State of Florida or eligibility for an unencumbered Florida RN license.
  • Current CPR certification.

Work Environment and Special Considerations

The position requires work in classroom, laboratory, and clinical environments.

Pay, Benefits, and Work Schedule

Starting salary ranges from $54,317 to $79,218, commensurate with experience and education.
