The Engineering Inspector is responsible for overseeing and performing complex inspections on public and private infrastructure projects, including roads, utilities, stormwater, and other public works. This role ensures that all projects comply with applicable standards, codes, and regulations, as well as with the approved engineering plans and specifications. This role also requires extensive experience in public works and construction inspection, as well as thorough understanding of engineering principles.

The Engineering Inspector plays a critical role in maintaining the quality, safety, and integrity of public infrastructure.

Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description.

Additional compensation based on licensure.

Perform detailed inspections of a wide range of public and private infrastructure projects, including roads, utilities, stormwater, and other public works.

Ensure that all work complies with approved plans, specifications, and applicable municipal, state, and federal standards, codes, and regulations.

Identify potential issues and non‑compliance, document findings, and communicate necessary corrective actions to developers, contractors, and project managers.

Prepare comprehensive inspection reports, including photographs, measurements, videos, test results, and detailed descriptions of any observed deficiencies.

Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records of all inspections, ensuring that documentation is accessible for review by developers, contractors, engineers, project managers, surety providers and regulatory agencies.

Participate in project meetings, providing updates on inspection activities, discussing any issues, and contributing to problem‑solving efforts.

Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to project requirements, engineering standards, and quality control measures.

Verify that materials used in construction meet project specifications and approved standards.

Conduct or oversee testing procedures, such as soil compaction tests, concrete sampling, and asphalt density testing, to ensure quality and compliance.

Serve as a liaison between the inspection team, developers, contractors, project managers, and other stakeholders, facilitating clear and effective communication.

Address and resolve any issues that arise during construction, coordinating with relevant parties to ensure timely and effective solutions.

Provide regular updates to the Engineering Inspectors Supervisor or Development Review Engineering Manager, including any significant issues, delays, or deviations from the project approved plans and specifications.

Ensure that all construction activities comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Identify potential safety hazards on‑site and take immediate action to mitigate risks, including stopping work if necessary.

Promote a culture of safety within the inspection team and among contractors, emphasizing the importance of following safety protocols.

Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and changes in relevant standards, codes, and regulations through ongoing professional development.

Recommend improvements to inspection procedures and practices based on lessons learned and industry advancements.

Participate in professional organizations, seminars, workshops, and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.

Work closely with senior inspectors and supervisors to improve performance and enhance professional skills.

Provide technical support to project managers, engineers, and contractors, offering expertise on construction methods, materials, and regulatory compliance.

Assist in reviewing and interpreting engineering plans and specifications, ensuring a thorough understanding of project requirements.

Advise on potential design or construction changes based on field conditions, inspections, or unforeseen challenges.
