Position Overview

Avocet Aviation Services is seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic to provide technical and operational leadership within our growing MRO operation. This position serves as a key liaison between Maintenance, Quality Control, and Management while ensuring all aircraft maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with FAA regulations, approved technical data, and company procedures.

The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership skills, advanced troubleshooting capabilities, and a commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate aircraft maintenance activities for assigned shifts, crews, and projects.
  • Assign maintenance tasks based on technician qualifications, training, and authorizations.
  • Perform and oversee scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on aircraft airframes, powerplants, and related systems.
  • Troubleshoot complex aircraft discrepancies and provide technical guidance to maintenance personnel.
  • Verify maintenance actions for accuracy, conformity, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure maintenance records, logbooks, task cards, and electronic documentation are complete and accurate.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for shift turnovers, technical escalations, and Aircraft on Ground (AOG) events.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA regulations, customer requirements, Safety Management System (SMS) principles, and company policies.
  • Mentor and develop entry-level and mid-level A&P Mechanics through coaching and on-the-job training.
  • Coordinate with Quality, Engineering, and Management teams regarding inspections, maintenance planning, and operational priorities.
  • Monitor workforce utilization, workload progression, and schedule adherence to support efficient project execution.
  • Identify and report safety, quality, or compliance concerns through established channels.
  • Participate in audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of certification, training, and authority.
Minimum Qualifications
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate.
  • 5–8 years of documented aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Previous experience leading, supervising, or mentoring maintenance personnel.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English in accordance with 14 CFR Part 65.
  • Strong working knowledge of aircraft mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and power plant systems.
  • Understanding of FAA regulations, Part 145 Repair Station requirements, and Safety Management Systems (SMS).
  • Experience with electronic maintenance records and computerized maintenance tracking systems.
  • Ability to pass FAA/DOT drug and alcohol testing and background screening.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and overtime as required.
Physical Requirements

Ability to perform aircraft maintenance duties requiring standing, walking, bending, climbing, and working in confined or elevated areas. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds, safely use maintenance tools and equipment, work in various environmental conditions, wear required PPE, and meet airport security access requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation.
