Principal PLC​/SCADA Systems Engineer

Build smarter infrastructure that moves people and goods. As CLX Engineering’s Principal PLC/SCADA Systems Engineer, you will shape integrated control solutions that operate reliably in demanding, real-world settings—spanning airport systems to industrial facilities. You’ll own the architecture, direct the technical path, and inspire confidence from concept through commissioning.

Your mission

Define and steward end-to-end control system architecture across electrical, mechanical, and IT layers.

Guide projects from design to commissioning with a balance of rigor and pragmatism.

Serve as the trusted technical voice for customers and project managers.

Uplevel engineering through mentorship, design reviews, and high standards.

Resolve complex system issues and lock in sustainable, long-term  present in the field when needed to ensure smooth installation, startup, and troubleshooting.

Leadership ethos

This role is built on experience, ownership, and accountability. You will operate with minimal oversight, mentor the next generation of engineers, and influence how sophisticated automation systems are designed, delivered, and supported.

Where you’ll work Expect a healthy blend of office and field. You’ll review drawings and code, then step onto the floor to help mount enclosures, run or terminate cables, and assist with commissioning—working alongside technicians and field teams to get the job done.

Qualifications5+ years’ experience in automation, controls, or systems integration.

Expertise in PLC programming, HMI development, and system-level troubleshooting.

Demonstrated success integrating controls hardware, industrial networks, and data systems.

Experience leading technical teams and executing complex automation projects.

Excellent customer-facing communication and professionalism.

High degree of ownership, accountability, and technical judgment.

Ignition SCADA background is a valuable asset but not mandatory.

Travel rhythm

Travel is part of how we deliver. Plan for an annual average of 30–50% travel to support implementation, commissioning, and customer engagements.

Per diem provided during travel.

Flexible scheduling and time arrangements when projects require extended hours or travel.
