Description MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

The Seminole County Tax Collector is seeking a Customer Service Representative (CSR)! Responsible for clerical duties involved in the preparation, processing and fee collection efforts for vehicle registration and titling, vessel registration and titling, disabled persons parking placards, sales tax, property tax, tangible personal property tax, local business tax renewals, issuance of Florida driver licenses and hunting and fishing licenses. Work requires review of documents, data entry and money collection within established balancing procedures and is performed under the general direction of appropriate staff.

May also be responsible for processing Concealed Weapons Permits and/or birth certificates.

If assigned to multiple service branch office:
  • Receives payments for new and renewal tags and titles for vehicles and vessels.
  • Reviews proof of ownership and insurance documents, issues proper license plate, FL numbers or decals and collects the requisite fees.
  • Assists the public in completion of forms for application for Florida title on vehicles/vessels previously titled outside of the state.
  • Physically verifies vehicle identification numbers, confirms proof of insurance and keys in the appropriate codes and tag designations.
  • Processes initial and renewal applications for issuance of temporary and permanent disabled persons parking placards.
  • Operates a computer to issue new and renewal Florida driver licenses or identification cards to customers.
  • Responsible for verification of identity, basic visual competency and residency status.
  • Responsible for the collection of monies, proper camera operation and specific data entry as required by the State of Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
  • May be required to conduct road tests.
  • Receives payment for tangible and non-tangible property taxes.
  • May be responsible for processing concealed weapons permit and birth certificate applications.
  • Verifies documentation and processes applications for Business Tax Receipts.
If assigned to taxes:
  • Reviews name, legal description and parcel number to ensure correct payment application, collects funds, issues receipt (upon request) and inputs same into computer, validating check and bill.
  • Assists mortgage companies by assigning and/or removing company codes to escrow accounts for direct billing.
  • Assists property owners, mortgage companies, title companies, branch offices and banks by providing information on tax amounts, legal descriptions, parcel numbers and ownership.
  • Updates address information and other data on file on the computer to insure correct billing.
  • Upon receipt of notification from Property Appraiser, processes cut outs, corrections of property descriptions, values and tax amounts as they relate to current or prior years.
  • Upon correction of assessment of property taxes, prepares requisition for refund and forward same to the Department of Revenue; if refund is approved, same is forwarded to payee.
  • Reviews and combines multiple bills for initial tax notices and follow up with second notices to any that remain unpaid.
  • Processes over payment on property taxes, prepares and forwards refund to payee.
  • Assists public in review, explanation and clarification of various taxing authorities, including Trim notices, installments and deferred tax payment plan.
  • Reviews requests for pro-rated taxes. Upon approval, calculates and processes payment of same.
  • Stays aware of discount, penalty dates and all other schedules relating to property taxes.
  • Upon request, calculates redemption amount of tax certificates and generates statement if necessary.
  • Processes and posts redemption payments of tax certificates.
  • Disburses to purchaser, the face value and accrued interest from redemptions of tax certificates.
  • Receives tax deed application, verifies maturity of certificate, collects all outstanding taxes and search fees, and initiates title search. Upon receiving title search, verifies information, processes certification and forward same to the Clerk of the Circuit Court.
  • Upon redemption of Seminole County Tax Certificates, calculates and distributes funds to various taxing authorities.
