Responsibilities
  • Responsible for day-to-day supervisory activities in the DOH-Seminole clinic. The clinic administers Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) and HIV programs, School Physicals, and Immunizations.
  • Under the direction of the Executive Community Health Nursing Director, supervise staff, communicate, motivate, train, and evaluate employees; plan and direct work; hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend action.
  • Develop performance expectations, conduct regular staff meetings to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensure proper coverage, and complete timesheets.
  • Direct supervision of all clinic operations; attend interagency meetings to collaborate on maximizing and improving service delivery to the target population.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the clinic; complete Family Planning and HMS reports as directed; conduct continuous quality improvement activities to meet clinical measures and assess budget needs.
  • Assist and fill in as a nurse in the DOH-Seminole clinic as needed or directed by the Executive Community Health Nursing Director.
  • Communicate work expectations and performance metrics to staff; motivate improvements in quality and quantity of work; advise on performance and professional growth; address performance issues with corrective action and progressive discipline as warranted.
  • Document performance and maintain written records; monitor lab requirements and oversee responsible staff.
  • Review and approve leave and attendance; manage vacation, sick, compensatory time, overtime, administrative leave, and flexible schedules; ensure adherence to state procedures and HIPAA guidelines; protect client rights and confidentiality; review and communicate DOH policies related to information security.
  • Plan one-on-one staff meetings, conference attendance, continuing education, trainings, and orientations for new employees; participate in outreach events to promote DOH-Seminole services; perform other duties to support the department’s mission.
  • Provide nursing oversight during public health emergencies; participate in shelter training; assist with organizing yearly shelter walk-through visits to SpNS schools; support readiness of medication supply for Special Needs.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of medical terminology, interviewing methodologies, data collection and analysis; advanced nursing principles including health assessment, physical exams, and medication prescription. Ability to prepare reports and understand/apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to TB, Refugee Health, and other programs. Ability to follow legislative policy direction per Federal and Florida Statutes; provide customer service in a tactful and courteous manner;

work independently; plan, organize, and coordinate work; communicate effectively; maintain effective working relationships; use critical thinking and problem solving; proficiency with word processing, data entry, and email.

Minimum Qualifications

Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes, or eligible to practice nursing according to Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited higher education institution.
  • Knowledge of and skill in using Health Management System (HMS) and the Florida State Health Online Tracking System (FL SHOTS).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
