A 221-bed acute care hospital and Level II Trauma Center in Sanford is seeking a CVOR Registered Nurse to join its cardiovascular surgical services team. The facility operates the region’s only full-service cardiovascular program, providing advanced care in open-heart surgery, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, cardiac rehabilitation, and diagnostic cardiovascular services.
Position OverviewThe CVOR RN works as part of an interdisciplinary surgical team that includes surgeons, surgical technologists, anesthesiology providers, and advanced practice clinicians. This role spans the full perioperative continuum, from preoperative preparation through intraoperative support and postoperative care coordination. The nurse plays a critical role in ensuring patient safety, maintaining sterile and procedural standards, and supporting efficient cardiovascular surgical workflow in a high-acuity environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct perioperative nursing care for cardiovascular surgical patients
- Perform preoperative patient assessments and verify surgical readiness
- Manage patient preparation including IV access, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification
- Participate in surgical briefing, time-out, and debriefing processes per hospital protocol
- Monitor patient status throughout the perioperative process and respond to changes in condition
- Assist with intraoperative coordination alongside surgical and anesthesia teams
- Document all nursing care, assessments, and interventions accurately and in real time
- Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures and postoperative expectations
- Support emergency response and critical decision-making in the OR environment
- Participate in rounding and workflow improvement initiatives with leadership
- Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care CVOR RN experience required
- Active Florida RN license or compact state RN license required (compact license holders must obtain Florida licensure within 60 days of relocation)
- Associate degree or nursing diploma required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 6 months of hire
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of hire
- Strong cardiovascular surgical nursing experience and OR adaptability required
- Full-time position
- Day shifts with rotating weekends
- On-call required (approximately 10-15 shifts per month)
- 30-minute call-back response requirement
- Hourly pay: $34.85 - $49.06/hr
- On-call pay: $4.00/hr while on call
- Sign-on bonus: case by case (not guaranteed)
