Position: CHARGE NURSE, EVENING SHIFT

Charge Nurse For The Evening Shift

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the position of Charge Nurse for the evening shift from 5:30 PM-6:00 AM. This position involves supervisory and highly specialized work providing professional nursing care to persons incarcerated in the John

E. Polk Correctional Facility. Required document:
Each applicant must complete a notarized Background Investigation Waiver. Failure to submit this document will disqualify your application. The waiver must be notarized and submitted with the application. Applications must be submitted before the closing date of September 1, 2026.

Typical duties include assessing the condition of injured and ill inmates, conducting physical assessments, delegating and overseeing clinical care delivery methods, reviewing physician transcription, lab results, and medication rosters, administering or delegating the administration of medications, documenting encounters in the medical record, logging use of medical supplies, preparing, maintaining, and filing medical documents, supervising RNs, LPNs, CNAs, MAs on assigned shifts, assuring appropriate application of clinical knowledge in the care of all patients, ensuring adequate staff coverage, initiating and recommending performance evaluations, disciplinary, and/or commendatory actions for assigned personnel, and performing all other duties as assigned or required.

Minimum qualifications include possessing and maintaining a State of Florida license as a Registered Nurse, four (4) years' experience as a Registered Nurse (BSN can be substituted for 2 years' experience), supervisory experience preferred, consideration may be given to equivalent combination of related training, education and experience, possessing and maintaining current licensure and CPR card, OSHA updates and CEU certification, as required for licensure, internal applicants must have completed the Seminole County Sheriff's Office one (1) year probationary period, and possessing and maintaining a valid Florida Driver's License.

Knowledge, skills, abilities, and other requirements include regular and prompt attendance, knowledge of advanced nursing methods and practices including public health and communicable diseases, ability to follow instructions and to maintain effective working relationships with superiors and the medical community, to demonstrate ethical and professional behavior, to solve problems and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, working conditions within the confines of the John

E. Polk Correctional Facility, physical attributes requirements including mobility, lifting, visual, dexterity, emotional/psychological potential contact with hostile individuals, direct inmate contact, exposure to emergency situations, trauma, grief and death, frequent public contact, decision-making and concentration, special requirements including ability to behave respectably and with utmost integrity even when off duty, responding for any critical incident, manmade or natural, working weekends, nights, and/or occasional overtime.
