Supervisor, Victim Advocate

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the position of VICTIM ADVOCATE SUPERVISOR.

The Victim Advocate Supervisor plays a critical, multifaceted leadership role overseeing crisis intervention and response across multiple agencies (including county municipalities, the Sheriff’s Office, healthcare settings, and the criminal justice system) by assigning, monitoring, and reviewing the work of Victim Advocates in providing services to victims of crime.

• Provide clinical and administrative oversight to a team of victim advocates and volunteers, ensuring that individuals who have experienced trauma, abuse, or are victims of crime receive compassionate and trauma-informed support.

• Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Victim Advocate Unit by maintaining the on-call calendar and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines.

• Maintain an on-call status and respond to crime scenes as needed.

• Assist in the development and presentation of community programs.

• Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of personnel responsible for victim advocacy functions.

• Ensure grant-related responsibilities are completed in a timely and accurate manner.

• Establish methods for best practices by identifying goals and objectives, implementing policies and procedures, and identifying and addressing the unit's needs.

• Provide professional guidance, mentoring, and emotional support to foster resilience among Victim Advocate staff through coaching, regular debriefings to prevent compassion fatigue and burnout, and other measures that promote well-being.

• Oversee complex or high-risk cases, provide crisis intervention guidance, and advocate on behalf of the agency and its clients to external stakeholders, including law enforcement, prosecutors, and community leaders.

• Evaluate callouts and field responses to identify needs and allocate resources accordingly.

• Interact with other victim services providers to ensure collaboration and community partnership.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or a closely related field
• Three (3) years of experience related to victim advocacy or criminal justice
• Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of related training, education, and experience
• Internal applicants must have completed the Seminole County Sheriff's Office one (1) year probationary period
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License

Regular and prompt attendance is mandatory in the performance of an employee's duties for this position, to include scheduled work hours, required training activities, calls for mandatory overtime needs, and calls for service during times of an emergency.

Knowledge of County geography. Knowledge of Florida Statutes in reference to victim/witness assistance. Knowledge of community resources to assist victims. Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional behavior; analyze information or situations; synthesize information and/or circumstances; and solve problems. Ability to recall facts and/or information; describe persons, things, and/or events. Ability to read and comprehend.

The work environment is an office atmosphere, although the incumbent is frequently required to meet with victims at crime scenes or at a hospital/medical facility.
