Sanford School Department Position SummaryThe Sanford School Department is seeking a dedicated Educational Technician III to support children ages 3–4 in its newly established early childhood special education program. Working under the direct supervision and/or collaboration with the Special Education Teacher, the Ed‑Tech III will assist in implementing individualized instruction, supporting IEP goals, and fostering a safe and nurturing environment for young learners.
Responsibilities- Assist the special education teacher in implementing IEP goals and individualized instruction
- Provide direct support to students in small group and one‑on‑one settings
- Support students in developing communication, social‑emotional, self‑care, and pre‑academic skills
- Implement behavior support strategies and use AAC/assistive technology as directed
- Collect and record student data on IEP goals, behaviors, and daily progress
- Maintain accurate records and assist in preparing instructional materials
- Participate in professional development, department meetings, and district training
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, principal or special education administrator
Reports To: Special Education Teacher / Building Principal
Required Qualifications- Valid Maine State Ed‑Tech III certification, or ability to obtain prior to employment
- Early Childhood, Special Education, Human Services, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices for children ages 3–5
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and staff
- Commitment to maintaining student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and district policy
Instruction and support may occur across multiple settings, including self‑contained special education classrooms, inclusive general education classrooms, and community‑based Early Learning Centers or childcare programs in the Sanford area. Travel between sites may be required. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
Physical Requirements- Ability to work on the floor, bend, kneel, and physically engage with young children
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and assist students with physical needs as required
