Special Education Teacher SEAL Program (Grades 5-8)

Sanford Middle School has an opening for a Special Education Teacher to work in our SEAL (Social, Emotional, Academic, and Learning) Program serving students in grades 5-8. This classroom supports students with a range of social, emotional, academic, and behavioral needs. The primary instructional focus of this position will be teaching social skills and executive functioning skills. The successful candidate will develop and deliver engaging, individualized instruction designed to help students develop self-regulation, organization, problem-solving, communication, interpersonal skills, and strategies for successfully navigating the academic and social demands of middle school.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for supervising and supporting educational technicians, collaborating closely with related service providers and general education teachers, and working as an integral member of our school team. Responsibilities will include case management, development and implementation of IEPs, progress monitoring, and evaluations as needed. We are looking for a hardworking, flexible, and collaborative team player who enjoys working with middle school students and is able to build positive, trusting relationships with students.

The ideal candidate will communicate effectively, work well with colleagues, be willing to adapt to the changing needs of students, and bring a positive, student-centered approach to the classroom.

Qualifications:

Current Maine Special Education Teacher certification (282), or the ability to demonstrate a clear path and timeline for obtaining the appropriate certification. Current CHRC (Criminal History Records Check) included with the application package. Experience working with students with social, emotional, academic, and/or behavioral needs is preferred. Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and classroom management skills. A commitment to building positive relationships with students and supporting their academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth.

Ability to provide explicit instruction in social skills and executive functioning skills.
