Child Protective Services Caseworker – Sanford, Maine
Job SummaryWe are seeking a dedicated professional to provide case management services for children and families throughout Maine. Responsibilities include investigative work, assessment of child safety, and coordination with judicial, law‑enforcement, educational and social‑services partners to ensure safe and permanent outcomes for children.
Responsibilities- Perform professional social work in child protection, children’s services, and adoption.
- Engage families to assess child safety and create plans that meet their needs.
- Develop a multidisciplinary team of family members, staff, and community resources to support safe solutions.
- Make fact‑based safety decisions in a timely manner with input from parents, children, extended family, and stakeholders.
- Assess child safety, abuse, neglect, and danger; evaluate family strengths, capabilities and functioning.
- Separate unsafe caregivers from children when court action is required to ensure protection.
- Create and implement appropriate plans focusing on safety, family reunification or permanent placement.
- Maintain accurate case records, summaries, reports, letters, and memos.
- Follow federal and state laws, mandates, policy, and time frames to achieve child safety, well‑being, and permanency.
- Perform case planning and petition for protective custody and placement of children when needed.
- Work frequent overtime, emergency standby coverage, and regular travel within the District Office area.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Social Welfare, or a related field with at least 12 courses in behavioral science, social science, or social work.
- Conditional or full licensure as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) under the Maine State Board of Social Worker Licensure.
- Detail oriented, able to manage and meet deadlines.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Social Work/Social Welfare or a related discipline.
- Eligibility for conditional or full LSW licensure; an earned BA/BS in social work/social welfare is required for full LSW, while a related field is acceptable for conditional LSW.
- Knowledge of Maine State Board of Social Worker Licensure regulations (e.g., behavioral science, education, mental health).
