Adjunct faculty at Central Carolina Community College facilitate transformative lifelong learning by incorporating discipline-specific learning outcomes through active learning opportunities, lectures, hands-on skill development, assignments, appropriate classroom management, etc. Faculty provide authentic student assessment that allows students to improve their knowledge and skills with each assignment. Faculty foster student success by establishing meaningful connections with students early in the semester to support the varying needs of each student throughout the semester.

The College and Career Readiness Department at Central Carolina Community College offers literacy education programs including Adult Basic Education (ABE), English as a Second Language (ESL), and High School Equivalency (HSE). Courses are taught through different delivery methods including face-to-face instruction, online, and hybrid options.

The Adjunct College  & Career Readiness/Youth Build Instructor is responsible for teaching high-potential youth ages 16 - 24 participating in theYouth

Build Program. Through the Youth Build program, students who have previously been met with barriers to achieving goals,will earn their High School Equivalency (HSE) credential, along with an industry-recognized credential.

* Please include unofficial copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts. Will be required to submit official copies of transcripts before the start date.

* This position may have occasional travel between campuses and for training. Occasional after hours may be required.

* This position requires face to face teaching.

Essential Duties

Teaching Responsibilities:

* Embrace the institutional goals of Central Carolina Community College by engaging students as full partners in the learning process, removing barriers for student progression in the Youth Build program, and supporting and assisting students in achieving their educational goals.

* Deliver contextualized instruction that integrates career-specific pathways while developing academic skills in reading, writing, math, and science to successfully pass the HSE exam.

* Create course outlines and lesson plans according to Adult Education Content Standards and the unique needs of adult learners.

* Include technology-specific instruction as well as contextualized lessons in planning.

* Use student learning outcomes to create a variety of activities, assignments, and assessments that ensure curriculum goals will be met.

* Create a dynamic instructional environment that promotes a positive, interactive, and inclusive learning experience for all students.

* Provide personalized and constructive feedback on student assignments by recognizing what students did well and identifying attainable improvements for future work.

* Assist students with official HSE testing logistics as well as plans for transitioning to college programming.

* Respond to all student communication within two business days.

* Report attendance weekly.

* Actively support the college's vision of exceptional learning for all.

Institutional Responsibilities:

* Collaborate with the Youth Build Program staff to foster an inclusive, engaging, and supportive environment tailored to the unique needs of these learners.

* Engage in professional development activities to expand expertise in adult basic education within College and Career Readiness.

* Attend departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings as requested.

* Cultivate a culture of care and advocacy through compassion, inclusion, opportunity, integrity, courage, and people.

* Recognizing and respecting the variety of experiences and contributions represented by all of our students, employees, and community, all faculty will encourage a learning environment in which everyone is supported and valued for their unique perspectives and experiences and will foster and promote the participation of all members of our diverse communities.

Minimum Requirements

* A Bachelor's Degree in English, social studies, science or mathematics, or a closely related area

* Experience teaching youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds

Preferred Requirements

* Experience working with Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs.

* Experience in mentoring or training

* Experience with Integrated Education and Training programing
