Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an approved education program in subject area. North Carolina teaching license.
Nature of Work: To plan, instruct, and organize instructional environments which help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well‑being of students, particularly when students are participating in an inclusive activity.
- Ability to motivate students.
- Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
- Ability to perform general clerical duties.
- Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom.
- Ability to operate common office machines.
- Ability to maintain basic files and records.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
Essential Job Functions:
- The teacher prepares materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson and gets the class started quickly, maintaining high student time‑on‑task.
- The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures for routine administrative matters, student participation, talking, and movement, monitoring behavior during various activities, and consistently addressing inappropriate behavior while maintaining student dignity.
- The teacher begins each lesson with a review of previous materials, introduces objectives clearly, speaks fluently, provides relevant examples, assigns tasks with a high success rate, asks appropriate questions, and conducts lessons at a brisk pace, ensuring smooth transitions and clear assignment instructions.
- The teacher maintains clear, firm, and reasonable standards, circulates during class work to check performance, uses oral and written assessments to gauge student progress, and poses questions one at a time.
- The teacher provides timely feedback on correct and incorrect responses, affirms correct oral responses, and supports learning through probing, repeating, clues, or additional time.
- The teacher develops instructional plans aligned with school and systemwide curricular goals, uses diagnostic data to revise objectives, maintains accurate performance records, and utilizes available human and material resources.
- The teacher treats all students fairly and equitably and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and the community.
- The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, adheres to laws and policies, follows professional development plans, and demonstrates growth.
- The teacher upholds the Code of Ethics and Standards for Professional conduct.
- The teacher performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
