Term of Employment: 10 months

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret trade and technical materials, periodicals, and safety regulations.
  • Ability to prepare instructional documents, reports, and correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate and present information to students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
  • Ability to apply geometry, trigonometry, ratios, percentages, and measurements relevant to construction and carpentry work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills; ability to address practical issues in a construction setting.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and diagrams in written, oral, or schematic form.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to use educational software for student management and instructional delivery. Familiarity with digital tools and equipment related to construction technology is preferred.

  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Skill in integrating academic concepts with hands‑on technical instruction.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Credentials Required Prior to Hire
    • Valid North Carolina Teaching License (74026) or eligibility for licensure.
  • Credentials Required for Continuation (All of the following required within 6 months of hire:)
    • ASE Brakes (A5)
    • ASE Electrical/Electronic Systems (A6)
    • ASE Auto Maintenance & Light Repair (G1)
    • ASE Suspension and Steering (A4)

OR

  • ASE Master Automobile Technician (A1-A8)
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree – 2 years of Industry demonstrated experience in the Automotive repair and service field, previous teaching experience in this content area
  • Associate Degree – 4 years in the same fields listed above. OR
  • High School Diploma or GED – 6 years in the same fields.
  • Example of Acceptable Work Experience includes experience in the Automotive repair and service field, previous teaching experience in this content area
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teaches the North Carolina Standard Course of Study/Essential Standards for Automotive Service Technology.
  • Provides instruction aligned with district-approved CTE curriculum, combining classroom learning with lab/shop-based experiences.
  • Develops and implements instructional materials and activities that prepare students for industry-recognized credentials such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications.
  • Teaches students how to diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles using proper techniques, tools, and safety procedures.
  • Ensures safe use and maintenance of automotive shop equipment, tools, and materials in accordance with OSHA and industry safety standards.
  • Promotes employability skills including teamwork, problem‑solving, customer service, and professionalism.
  • Assesses student progress in technical skills, knowledge, and work habits; maintains accurate records of student performance.
  • Provides career exploration opportunities and guidance on pathways in automotive technology, advanced training, and workforce entry.
  • Communicates effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and program expectations.
