Position Summary: The Embedded Software Engineer II is responsible for developing moderately complex software system designs for new products as well as design improvements to legacy products. They will exercise sound engineering judgement and present analysis summaries which support design decisions. The Embedded Software Engineer II is a capable individual contributor who can independently deliver production‑ready embedded code, contribute to design discussions, and support system integration.

They are proficient in embedded architecture and real‑time programming, and participate in code reviews. The Software Engineer II will work both independently and in a team environment with Software Engineers, Design Engineers, NPI Managers, and Test Technicians. Collaboration with other departments including manufacturing, Quality, and Assembly is expected.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop software components with a focus on efficiency, scalability, and maintainability, ensuring they meet product requirements and integrate seamlessly with existing systems.
  • Contribute to refining development processes by identifying inefficiencies and suggesting improvements. Take ownership of small features, ensuring adherence to best practices and quality standards.
  • Contribute to R&D projects in a team setting to meet project delivery dates.
  • Perform testing and analyze test data. Create test reports to determine if design and process meet functional and performance specifications.
  • Contribute to release planning by identifying potential risks and ensuring proper test coverage. Assist in automating deployment processes and improving release documentation.
  • Understand basic software concepts for manufactured systems, including control, integration, and testing. Assist in troubleshooting.
  • Proactively evaluate and integrate complex technical information to design robust systems, providing technical direction and mentorship to ensure the software meets scalability and performance standards for product success.
  • Provide technical assistance to both internal software development teams and external software component suppliers, helping to identify and resolve issues in the build process, ensuring smooth integration and maintaining project timelines.
  • Identify the underlying causes of software issues or system failures. Analyze logs, trace errors, and diagnose software bugs, aiming to resolve issues that affect the functionality and performance of the software.
  • Actively participate in the SIG SAUER NPI (New Product Introduction) process.
  • Start building supportive mentorship connections with less experienced engineers and cross‑functional team members.
  • Travel on an infrequent basis.
  • Engage in and voluntarily volunteer for Continuous Improvement projects/tasks.
  • Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
  • Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education/Experience &

Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science in software Engineering, and 3‑6 years of previous experience as a Software Engineer.
