Manager, Cost Accounting

The Manager, Cost Accounting will own and lead core cost accounting, financial reporting, and POC revenue recognition processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial information to support business decisions. This role partners closely with operations, project management, and leadership to drive performance, improve processes, and enhance financial visibility across the organization.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading month-end close activities related to cost accounting, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of results
  • Managing balance sheet integrity, including account reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis
  • Leading revenue recognition processes, including Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting for long-term contracts
  • Monitoring and analyzing project financials, including cost-to-complete, margin analysis, and forecast updates
  • Managing contract-related accounts, including unbilled revenue (contract assets) and deferred revenue (contract liabilities)
  • Partnering with project managers and operations to ensure accurate cost tracking and revenue recognition
  • Driving cost accounting activities, including standard cost updates and variance analysis (labor, material, overhead)
  • Preparing and reviewing financial statements and management reports, providing actionable insights
  • Supporting budgeting and forecasting, including project-level and company-wide financial planning
  • Developing and maintaining financial models for revenue, cost, and cash flow projections
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements, especially in project accounting and close processes
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards (US GAAP / IFRS) related to revenue recognition
  • Supporting audit processes, including documentation for revenue recognition and contract accounting
  • Collaborating cross-functionally to resolve discrepancies and improve financial accuracy

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 7+ years of accounting/finance experience
  • Strong experience with POC / ASC 606 revenue recognition
  • Experience in project-based or long-term contract environments
  • Solid understanding of cost accounting and margin analysis
  • ERP experience (SAP, Oracle, or similar)
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills

Work environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and reach with hands and arms.

Environmental safety requirements:

  • New Employee Safety Training is required by all newly hired employees, including Safety Awareness
  • All safety related training is provided and tracked by the EHS Director
  • Job specific training modules deemed necessary by employee's Manager or Director will be required of all employees on an ongoing basis

Salary range: $100,000 - $130,000, plus annual bonus structure
