Associate Vice President of Accounting

The Vice President of Accounting serves as the senior accounting authority for a multi-site, vertically integrated Ophthalmology organization (Ophthalmology, Optometry, ASC). Reporting directly to the CFO, the VP of Accounting is responsible for setting the high-level accounting strategy, scaling accounting operations, and enforcing technical compliance—while actively driving day-to-day execution across general ledger operations, financial closes, technical GAAP accounting, external audits, and tax compliance.

This role requires a "working executive" mindset: a leader who can design scalable accounting strategies for a growing enterprise, but who also rolls up their sleeves to steer close bottlenecks, process improvements, and directly supervise the accounting integration, opening balance sheet setup, and system onboarding for future acquisitions.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without accommodation. The requirements listed below are representative, but not all inclusive, of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.

  • Direct and oversee all corporate accounting functions, ensuring full compliance with GAAP, regulatory standards, and internal policies across 50+ locations.
  • Direct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, establishing target schedules that ensure timely, GAAP-compliant consolidated reporting.

  • Maintain and refine a unified, multi-entity Chart of Accounts optimized for multi-line-of-business tracking and reporting.
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle Management leadership to ensure accurate revenue recognition frameworks, contractual allowance modeling, bad debt reserve calculations, and clinical cash posting reconciliations.
  • Establish clinical cost allocation strategies while directly overseeing physician compensation accounting, provider productivity tracking, and site-level expense control.
  • Design, implement, and enforce a rigorous enterprise-wide internal control framework to safeguard corporate assets and ensure financial reporting integrity.
  • Oversee cash flow forecasting, working capital optimization, and reserve management across multi- entity corporate structures.
  • Direct tax planning, compliance, and timely filings across all federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
  • Lead the optimization and administration of enterprise accounting technology and financial BI platforms to eliminate manual processes and accelerate close cycles
  • Guide financial decision-making by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal accounting policies and operating procedures.
  • Manage relationships with commercial lenders, banks, and capital partners, ensuring strict adherence to loan covenants and debt reporting requirements.
  • Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal financial and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop strategic business plans aligned with overarching company goals.
  • Oversee financial audits, serving as the primary liaison and recommending procedural improvements to enhance operational controls.
  • Perform accounting, financial, and other duties assigned by management.
