We are seeking an entry-level Product Development Associate who will play a key role in the implementation and integration of our new Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. This role is ideal for someone who has a solid foundation in product development, experience working within a PLM environment, and is eager to learn how to optimize processes that take products from concept to market.
You’ll collaborate with design, product development, production, and operations to ensure a smooth transition to our new PLM system while supporting ongoing product development activities. Think of this as a hybrid role: part product developer, part PLM power-user, and part problem-solver.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Support the implementation and rollout of a new PLM system, acting as a liaison between cross-functional teams and system administrators.
- Assist in the day-to-day product development process, including style creation, sample tracking, and timeline management.
- Maintain accurate product data within the PLM system and ensure integrity across all stages of development.
- Partner with internal teams (design, sourcing, production, and sales) to troubleshoot PLM-related issues and support adoption.
- Collaborate with Operations and external vendors to test system functionalities, integrations, and updates.
- Participate in the migration of product data into the new PLM.
- Provide training and support to colleagues on PLM workflows and best practices.
- Assist with product development administrative tasks (specs, BOMs, approvals, documentation) as needed.
- Leverage knowledge of ERP systems (Aptean/Full Circle experience highly preferred) to ensure smooth data flow between PLM and ERP.
- 2+ years of experience in product development, merchandising, or related field
- Hands-on experience implementing and using a PLM system – Exenta/Aptean PLM preferred (any platform; PLM implementation experience a plus).
- Strong understanding of the product development lifecycle, from concept through production.
- Managed and organized apparel fabric and trims library to ensure accessibility and accuracy for design teams
- Familiarity with ERP systems; exposure to Aptean or Full Circle strongly preferred.
- Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
- Adobe Illustrator knowledge a plus
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and data management skills.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to partner effectively with diverse teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Fashion/Apparel Product Development, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.
Description:
AFTCO is a fishing and outdoor apparel company with a legacy of USA-made hardgoods, operating three divisions: AFTCO Clothing, AFTCO Tackle, and Marsh Wear. Now in our 67th year, we are a third-generation, family-owned business focused on long-term growth through independent retailers and direct-to-consumer channels. In an industry increasing driven by private equity and cheaply built products, we pride ourselves on being the opposite.
The AFTCO brand delivers products built for extreme conditions - from the freezing temperatures of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to the humid summers of Costa Rica. We focus on durability, performance-driven fabrics, and lasting construction, prioritizing function and subtle technical design.
