We are seeking an experienced Flooring Estimator to support public works, commercial, and civic flooring projects. The Flooring Estimator will prepare accurate, detailed estimates and bids, ensure compliance with Division of the State Architect (DSA) requirements where applicable, and collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and clients to deliver competitive and reliable cost proposals. The ideal candidate combines strong knowledge of flooring systems, materials, and installation methods with experience estimating for public works projects and DSA-regulated jobs.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed flooring estimates and takeoffs for public works, civic, and commercial projects, including material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and DSA documents to develop compliant scope and pricing for projects subject to DSA review and approvals.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and measurements from plans and field verifications to ensure accurate material and labor calculations.
- Develop and maintain cost databases, unit pricing, and historical bid data to produce consistent, competitive estimates.
- Analyze subcontractor bids and negotiate scope and pricing to align with project budgets and schedules.
- Prepare pre-bid pricing strategies, value engineering options, and cost-saving recommendations while maintaining compliance and quality.
- Collaborate with project managers, operations, and construction management teams to review estimate assumptions, scheduling impacts, and constructability.
- Produce clear, professional bid packages, proposals, and documentation for clients, public agencies, and internal stakeholders.
- Support bid review meetings, respond to RFI cost questions during bid periods, and assist in post-bid clarifications and change order pricing.
- Maintain awareness of market conditions, material price trends, labor rates, local public works procurement rules, and DSA processes that affect estimating and project delivery.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of flooring estimating experience, including proven experience with public works projects and familiarity with DSA requirements.
- Demonstrated experience as a Flooring Estimator with strong knowledge of flooring systems, adhesives, underlayments, and installation methods.
- Proven ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and prepare detailed estimates and bid proposals.
- Experience with pre-bid preparation, cost analysis, and producing clear bid documentation; experience with take offs and quantity takeoff tools is a plus.
- Familiarity with construction management practices and working collaboratively with project teams, subcontractors, and clients on civic and commercial projects.
- Strong analytic skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and blueprint interpretation.
- Valid drivers license and ability to visit job sites as needed; DSA-specific experience or certification is highly preferred.
- Preferred: experience with quantity takeoff software, construction cost databases, and prior work within civic or commercial markets.
