Job Purpose Summary

The Education Development Coach at Orange County Head Start (OCHS) is a catalyst for transformative teaching, empowering our educators to deliver exceptional early childhood experiences. This role fuels the development and execution of a dynamic professional development system, directly impacting the quality of education and care for our children. Through expert CLASS monitoring, personalized coaching, and targeted training, the Coach cultivates a culture of continuous improvement and ensures compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and the Head Start Act of 2007.

Collaborating with educators and leadership, the Coach identifies developmental needs and creates engaging, impactful learning experiences that elevate teaching practices, fostering program excellence and empowering every child to thrive.

Professional Coaching System Implementation
  • Deliver a comprehensive teacher professional development system using data from monitoring, CLASS assessments, OCHS Self‑Assessment, and child outcome data.
  • Collaborate with Center Directors and Education Managers to identify specific learning needs and customize training and coaching efforts that reflect site‑specific goals.
  • Plan, schedule, and deliver engaging coaching aligned with identified staff development needs.
  • Provide additional training as necessary to ensure teacher professional development and performance in accordance with requirements from Head Start Performance Standards and the Head Start Act of 2007 for teaching staff, center directors and related education staff.
Classroom Observation and Assessment
  • Conduct CLASS and curriculum fidelity observations and debriefs to evaluate classroom quality and instructional effectiveness.
  • Prepare timely documentation and reports to identify trends and inform the teacher professional development system for additional teacher training and coaching needs.
  • Partner with Inclusion and Education teams to strengthen classroom management and instructional quality.
  • Conduct debriefs with teaching staff and Center Directors to review the results of CLASS observations and curriculum fidelity assessments, and facilitate meaningful feedback discussions following coaching sessions.
Practice‑Based Coaching & Follow‑Up
  • Utilize the Practice‑Based Coaching (PBC) model to support individual teacher growth.
  • Review CLASS assessment results and work collaboratively with teaching staff to set goals and develop action plans for individualized professional growth.
  • Prioritize and plan for necessary in‑person coaching as a result of CLASS assessment results and individualized professional growth plan.
  • Maintain agency‑wide data and reports to track and implement teacher professional development activities for individual staff.
  • Provide consistent in‑person coaching and technical assistance to classroom teams.
  • Provide related training and technical assistance to Teaching Staff as determined by CLASS and curriculum fidelity trends.
