Job Description and Duties
Under the general supervision of a Caltrans Electrical Supervisor or with lead direction by a Caltrans Electrician II, the Caltrans Electrician I is responsible for repairing highway lighting and electrical power circuits to various State equipment. This classification requires a valid Class C driver's license; a Class A or B driver's license is desirable. The incumbent works individually or with others and operates highway maintenance equipment and vehicles.
The incumbent may be required to work overtime including nights and weekends, may be required to work temporary and intermittent shifts, and is expected to respond to emergency calls. May be loaned to another crew. The position may require out-of-town travel, usually in week-long increments. This position is considered the first journey level for this class series. This position is represented under collective bargaining.

For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.

Working Conditions
Position located at 7181 Opportunity Rd San Diego CA, San Diego County.
Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.
Most work is done outdoors, where incumbent shall be exposed to blown dust, exhaust fumes, noise, uneven surfaces, extremes of heat or cold, inclement weather. Work may be performed asional night work is required.
Personal safety requirements include but are not limited to:
* Appropriate footwear, in good and sturdy condition, must be worn; tennis or running shoes are not appropriate.
* Either long or short-sleeved shirts provided by Caltrans, or a safety vest is to be worn over non-safety shirts or coats.
* Long pants. No shorts or cutoffs.
* Provided safety gear such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection devices, face shields, gloves, respirator, chaps, or other safety gear must be worn when required by the department.
This position requires visual and color acuity adequate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, willingness to work at odd hours, be available for day or night calls, stay abreast of current technological changes in the fields of electricity and electronics, work up to 550 feet above pavement or water, work in the midst of traffic, and have the ability to withstand working under adverse (e.g., cold, wet, windy) weather conditions.
