Field Engineer
Duration: 10 Months (Contract to Hire)
Location:
Santa Ana, CA 92705 (Hybrid) (onsite T/W) Shift: 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday
General knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform routine and moderately complex assignments for specific discipline, installation, or service.
Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must be capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.
This position requires an experienced and competent individual capable of successfully solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
SummaryThis contractor role supports the Field Engineering group within Distribution Engineering. The engineer will work closely with Field Engineering teams to support capital project scoping, field-based assessments, and process improvement initiatives. The role emphasizes technical analysis, documentation, and collaboration with internal stakeholders to enhance system reliability and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct field assessments and power system modeling (e.g., load flow studies).
- Support grid modernization, infrastructure replacement, and resiliency programs.
- Scope capital projects include overhead/underground conductor replacements, programmable capacitor control, and fuse upgrades.
- Document and track projects using SCE’s Project Initiation Forms (PIFs) and Master Distribution Interface (MDI).
- Provide recommendations and documentation for system and process improvements.
- Assist in training and guiding engineering teams on new tools and procedures.
Mandatory
Skills:
- Working knowledge of the distribution grid, automated equipment, and telemetry systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical maps and schematics.
- Familiarity with SCE applications (CYME, DMS, EMS, Circuit Viewer, ADMS, etc.)
- Basic understanding of engineering principles and electric power flow
- Experience with data validation, troubleshooting, and equipment testing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Power Apps) for reporting and analysis
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with engineers, field crews, and stakeholders
Experience:
- Typically possesses zero to three years’ engineering experience.
